Design and Fabrication in the Sitka School District
  • Sitka High School - partnering with other high schools in Alaska, Washington, and Oregon
  • Blatchley Middle School
  • Keet Gooshi Heen Elementary School

People love to make things. Teaching students how to make things out of metal, wood, and ceramic materials has long been a part of school curricula. Digital technologies have created new ways of making things and Sitka High School has been in the forefront of bringing these new manufacturing technologies to the State of Alaska. We call it Design and Fabrication. It happens in a place we call the Fab Lab. This short video by Alex Cook describes what sorts of things happen in the Fab Lab and why we believe it is a good thing for our students.
